Volunteer with us!

Mountain Pathways parents agree to provide 30 hours of volunteer service to the community as part of their yearly contract.

These hours can be contributed on community workdays (held twice yearly, the Saturday before school starts in August and another Saturday in April after the winter is finished with us), by planning, organizing, and working at our annual festivals, or by providing assistance as needed with building and grounds or in the classrooms.

We also offer volunteer opportunities to individuals in the area who do not have children at the school. Many Appalachian State students complete internships at our facility in the classrooms, the afterschool program, through counseling, tutoring or other educational areas. All volunteers must submit to a criminal history check, and will be supervised by a member of the staff throughout their tenure with the school.

Parent Teacher Organization: This group actively fosters the well-being of the School by coordinating productive communication, volunteer work, and fundraising events for the purpose of student and teacher development. The PTO oversees the school’s community events throughout the year. Contact the current PTO chair at pto@mountain-pathways.org.

Committees: We have several standing committees that need volunteers each year: finance, development, marketing, fundraising & networking. Learn more about our committees here. We are particularly seeking members on our finance and development committees. Contact our finance chair or development chair if you’re be interested in learning more!

Substitute Teachers:
We are always in need of substitute teachers. If you think you could help out on occasion as a sub in one of our classrooms, email Emma at emma.willard@mountain-pathways.org to learn more about substituting. All substitutes must have a background check and go through an orientation process.

Current Volunteer Opportunities

  • There are some larger items at school that need to be assembled (adult sized tables, adult sized chairs, organizing units, etc.) If you would like to complete the assembly during school hours it can be done either before 11:30 or after 2:30. We can also work with your schedule if you would prefer to do it during a weekend day. This may be a project we need to partner up on depending on the size of the object.

  • We expect mulch to be donated to the school within the next couple of weeks from Green Valley Arborists. At that time, we will need a few volunteers to spread it in the playground areas. We are going to have to be flexible around the weather and everyone's availability on this one. If you think this may be something you'd be interested in helping do, we will gather names and work with the group to figure out a potential time.

  • The Willow classroom has requested support in tidying up the outdoor play space. The main focus of this task is organizing toys that have been dispersed throughout the area (ex: putting sand toys back into the sand box, gathering other smaller toys that may have transferred from inside to outside unintentionally). In an ideal world we could have volunteers complete this task weekly but we are requesting monthly or every other week clean up. Clean up can be completed any time the students are not using the playground. You can sign up for this task with this link.

  • With winter well upon us, the school would be supported in opening more readily during inclement weather if there were a handful of folks that would be willing to help shovel snow in the parking area and porches. If you think you might be interested in this task in the future, we would gather your contact information and myself of Lindsay would reach out to you via text group to check in on the groups availability and capacity to get to the school.

  • Each week we will update the Google Sheet below to show the current ingredients needed. If you are able, you can sign up to donate one or more ingredients per recipe.

This week we are making English Muffin Pizzas! Please use the sign-up link below to choose an item that works for you:
