The Mission of Farm Camp is to provide an intensive, weeklong sustainable farming and gardening experience that focuses on basic gardening skills as well as harvesting, processing, and marketing farm products.
Campers will learn creative problem solving skills, the fundamentals of a sustainable food system, and practical life applications of science, technology, engineering, and math through hands on experience.The goals of our program are simple: to establish a micro-farm on the Norwood House campus. It will serve children ages 9-12 years which fulfills a niche of much needed summer programming for this particular age group. Campers will serve community members by growing surplus food for the local shelter, The Hospitality House, and the Farm C.A.F.E.
Cost
$200 per week
Sessions
16 spots available each week.
Weeklong sessions will be held MONDAY – FRIDAY, 8:30am-2:30pm:
June 3rd - 7th : Equipment week: exploration of tools and equipment used for farming and land maintenance
June 17th - 21st : Tree Week: exploration of the why trees are important, identification, and biology
July 8th - 12th : Soil and Geology Week: exploration of different types of soil and why the rocks below determine soil type
July 22nd - 26th: : Foodie Week: guest chef and exploration of ways of using vegetables creatively
